Create Models for Minecraft!

You probably already play with Minecraft right? But did you know that you can model worlds using lightning fast resources such as Blender and SketchUp?

or

Note: This only works on Windows OS

  1. If using SketchUp You will need to export the model as a "collada" or "[yourfilename].dae" file. (If using Blender, you can simply save the file as "[yourfilename].obj")

  2. Download binvox and viewvox by visiting Patrick Min's Site. Place the downloads on your desktop (or better still, create a special Minecraft folder on your desktop) Download link

  3. Download obj2mc here

  4. Download mcedit here

When you have downloaded the above software

  1. If you are using SketchUp, convert your model to .obj by visiting here: http://greentoken.de/onlineconv/ (If modelled in Blender simply "save as" .obj) *

  2. Convert the obj file to .schematic using obj2mc software

  3. Open mcedit. Select the world that you want to create/ edit. Import the .schematic file into mcedit (read the control instructions to position and rotate the model as required. NOTE: DO NOT HAVE THE SAME WORLD FILE OPEN ON BOTH MINECRAFT AND MCEDIT. THIS WILL CAUSE CONFLICTS WITH UNKNOWN CONSEQUENCES!)

  4. Save the world that you have edited.

  5. Close mcedit!!!!

  6. Open Minecraft to play in the world that you created

  7. Enjoy!

* SPECIAL THANKS TO ALAN PANAYOTOV for finding the online converter!

This is a new Minecraft game we are working on. Please feel free to download, interact with, hack. Let us know what you did with this model. We would love to feature your designs.
